Bonnie Jane’s Scones

Bonnie Jane’s Scones

Perfect for strawberry shortcake or paired with Deb's Jam!

Bonnie Jane’s Scones in Arnprior was owned & operated by family members from 1993-2008. Here’s Aunt Janie’s recipe... a tried-and-true one used by multiple generations of our family! Tea biscuits or scones have been a staple in family farm kitchens for generations. They are quick to make and always delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup quick oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, cold & cut in chunks
  • 1 cup buttermilk

How to Make:

  1. Buzz all dry ingredients plus butter chunks in a food processor OR chop by hand with a pastry cutter or two knives.
  2. Put in medium bowl if you used food processor. Make hole in centre and add 1 cup buttermilk (or milk).
  3. Sir with spatula until it forms a ball.
  4. Dump out onto floured surface and knead about 20 times, using a splash of flour if needed.
  5. Roll out to about an inch or so in thickness and cut with a round cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet to touch each other for support.
  6. Bake at 450F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Yum!
